Motivational speaker Tony Robbins has said, Its not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives; its what we do consistently. Have you made your health a consistent priority? The start of a new year is a great time to take stock of your nutrition and fitness habits and look for areas of improvement.
A focus on prevention is essential when it comes to lasting good health. That means being proactive rather than reactive. If youre healthy today and want to stay that way, its best to take preventive measures now. Dont let things go and try to fix problems that creep up on you.
Heres a game plan for staying on the healthy side:
Yearly
- Schedule a physical or annual checkup (with blood work) with your doctor. Have your bloodwork done before your appointment so you can discuss the results with your physician. This is also a great opportunity to update your immunizations as necessary.
- Visit the optometrist and get tested for glaucoma, macular degeneration and other ocular maladies. Make sure your prescription is up to date.
- Talk to your doctor if you have any symptoms or changes in your breasts or if breast cancer runs in your family. The CDC recommends that women should have a mammogramevery two years from age 50 to 74.
- Consider a bone density test. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, several groups of people should have a bone density test: women over 65, men over 70, postmenopausal women with fractures, women with medical conditions associated with osteoporosis and anyone under 65 with risk factors for osteoporosis.
- Visit your dermatologist for a routine skin cancer check.
- Purchase new athletic equipment (running shoes/sports bras eventually wear out and stop working properly).
Every 6 Months
- Have a dental exam twice yearly and have dental X-Rays annually. Replace your toothbrush every 3 months.
- Clean out your pantry of unhealthy/expired foods. If unhealthy food isnt in your house, you wont be able to snack on it!
- Change your air filters every 3-6 months. Depending on the amount of air pollution in your house and your proclivity to allergies, consider having your ducts cleaned.
Monthly
- Check your blood pressure. There are many free blood pressure machines and health stations at local pharmacies and retail stores. Keep track of what is normal for you and report any concerns to your doctor.
- Manage your weight and keep track of any significant gains or losses to report to your doctor. Maintaining a healthy weight is a great way to prevent a multitude of potential problems.
Weekly
- Plan your meals to ensure youre getting enough fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Evaluate your stress level and make time to relax. Stress becomes negative when we face continuous challenges without relief or relaxation between challenges.
Daily
- Make time for exerciseboth cardio and resistance training. Just 30 minutes per day will yield results of reduced stress and improved metabolism.
- Floss and brush your teeth on a regular schedule. There are many studies that suggest that oral health and gum disease affect cardiovascular health.
- Give your body the nutrition it needs with Reliv. Relivs premier nutritional solutions provide optimal amounts of key nutrients. Relivs exclusive LunaRich products optimize levels oflunasin, the first dietary ingredient identified to affect gene expression and promote optimal health at the epigenetic level.
A Note from Dr. Carl: Good Health is a Habit
Looking at the statistics on preventable disease and obesity-related illness paints a grim picture. Far too many people dont think or worry about what they put into their bodies or how much they exercise until a problem develops, and then go right back to the unhealthy habits that created the problem in the first place. This mentality has resulted in our current health crisis.
We lead busy lives and our on-the-go meals often fail to meet our nutritional needs. The good news: you can fill in these gaps with Reliv. Reliv goes beyond the minimum daily requirements to follow the standard of optimal nutrition, developed by researchers who have shown that higher levels of key nutrients are essential to good health and well-being. Best of all, we considered bioavailability when formulating our products to ensure that your body can absorb these nutrients.
Take the preventive approach to your health and give your body the optimal nutrition it needs to stay healthy. Make Reliv a part of your everyday plan for good health.
