Self-management is a personal development practice that an individual executes independently through the implementation of specific skills to achieve realistic objectives. These skills include planning, goal setting, scheduling, effective communication, performance tracking, behavior modifications, and self-imposed performance evaluations. The individual carries out tasks that are aimed at reaching a definite goal, and does so while being unsupervised and unobserved by a teacher, trainer, or success coach. Self-management falls under many different categories, such as diabetes self-management and disease self-management. The categories are endless. Some other examples are listed below. Mental Self-Management Mental self-management relates to a planning system used to build and strengthen ones mental health. Activities include mind-mapping, improving memory and brain power and developing creativity skills. Corporate Self-Management Corporate (or business) self-management refers to methods used for business achievement, which would include business goal-setting, creating realistic business plans, writing business proposals, fundraising, marketing, and addressing customer service needs.

This would involve budgeting and spending, investing, saving, wealth building, credit management and taxes.
